Finding Out Which Full Suspension Mountain Bikes Appeal to You Most

Full suspension mountain bikes offer the rider more stability and control because the bike has suspension in both the front and the rear. A number of manufacturers offer full suspension mountain bikes in their product line, and we'll take a look at some of those bikes here.

When deciding between full suspension mountain bikes and hardtails, full suspension mountain bikes usually win out because of comfort. You do, however, lose some efficiency with pedaling. A couple additional things to consider when purchasing full suspension bikes is they are typically heavier than other mountain bikes, often require more maintenance, and are more expensive. On the other hand, as mentioned, these bikes offer more comfort, particularly on rough terrain.

Trek is one manufacturer that offers a line of full suspension mountain bikes. In fact, they offer three separate sub-lines, Fuel, Liquid and Session, representing more than a dozen full suspension mountain bikes.

There are nine Fuel Trek full suspension mountain bikes. They offer the Fuel RockerlinkTM linkage system and PowerPointTM rear triangle. These features offer the rider more power per pedal and tight handling on corners. Liquid Trek Mountain Bikes provide three different bikes with more standover ability and wheel clearance. Liquid Trek full suspension bikes also offer a rear pivot, reinforced RockerLinkTM and sealed cartridge bearings. Finally, there are two bikes in the Session line for those interested in free riding.

A couple of full suspension mountain bikes that have received good consumer reviews include the GT XCR 3000 and the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR XC. One comment about the GT XCR 3000 is that it has eliminated much of the pedal bounce that occurs with full suspension mountain bikes, as well as offering a stable and responsive ride in virtually all conditions. Reviewers comment that the Specialized Stumpjumper FSR XC is lighter than other full suspension mountain bikes and were consistently impressed by its performance.

If full suspension mountain bikes are the choice for you, fortunately you have some great bikes to choose from.
